Manali is an
important hill station of northern India and is the destination of thousands of

Manali is a high-altitude Himalayan resort town in Indiaís northern Himachal Pradesh state. It has a reputation as a backpacking center and honeymoon destination. Set on the Beas River, itís a gateway for skiing in the Solang Valley and trekking in Parvati Valley. It's also a jumping-off point for paragliding, rafting and mountaineering in the Pir Panjal mountains, home to 4,000m-high Rohtang Pass

The city is also known for its shiny gompas or Buddhist monasteries. It is also famous for its Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa, built in 1969. The monastery is maintained by donations from the local community and through the sale of hand-woven carpets in the temple workshop.
